2 Arrested, Pakistan Official Questioned For Alleged Leak Of Defence Documents

NEW DELHI: Two men from Rajasthan have been arrested for allegedly leaking documents. A Pakistan High Commission official was questioned on Thursday by the Delhi Police over alleged spying and theft of defence documents.

Abdul Basit, Pakistan High Commissioner has been summoned by the foreign ministry.

Police said, “Mohammed Akhtar, works in the Pakistan High Commission, was detained after a tip-off. He was reportedly let off because of diplomatic immunity.”

police sources said, The men who were arrested had been leaking sensitive documents to the official.

After a spy ring associated with Pakistan’s intelligence was exposed and five people, Some employees in the Pakistani mission came under scrutiny last year, including a non-commissioned Air Force officer, were arrested.

In what was widely seen as retaliation, the army carried out surgical strikes on September 29 across the Line of Control to target terror staging camps. The spying allegations have reemerged amid strained relations between the two countries over terror attacks from Pakistan, especially last month’s Uri attack in which 19 soldiers were killed.
