SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — After trying to save people who fell into the Savannah River, A firefighter has died.
“After a loading dock collapsed on Saturday, Master Firefighter Michael Curry was helping pull people from the water,” Local news organizations report that.
He was transported to the hospital and was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon. The Savannah Fire Department says in a news release that Curry suffered a “medical condition” during the rescue.
A scholarship has been created for Curry’s 8-year-old son.
As many as 30 people were injured and 13 were hospitalized as a result of the dock collapse.
