Maldives Leader Seeks Approval To Extend State Of Emergency By 15 Days

MALE:  Maldives President Abdulla Yameen on Monday sought parliamentary acceptance to prolong a state of unexpected emergency for 15 days in the Indian Ocean archipelago as the “the circumstance has not altered”, parliament’s Deputy Secretary Common Fathmath Niusha informed the legislature.

Yameen imposed the state of unexpected emergency on February 6 for 15 days, getting defied a Supreme Court docket ruling right after it quashed convictions towards 9 opposition leaders, and requested his governing administration to release those people held in prison.

The state of unexpected emergency was to close on Tuesday.
