Stop import and sale of GM foods: Activists | India News

NEW DELHI: Noting unlawful import and sale of genetically modified (GM) foodstuff in India, a team of farm activists on Friday lodged their grievance with the Food stuff Safety & Specifications Authority of India (FSSAI) and demanded urgent motion.

In their published grievance, they alleged that specific brand names of imported packaged foodstuff were openly being marketed in numerous outlets in lots of cities across the region which include Bengaluru, Noida and Mumbai.

“As pointed out by Union well being minster, J P Nadda, in Parliament on December 29, 2017, numerous businesses have been illegally importing and promoting genetically modified soybean and canola oil for human intake. While these have the authorization from ecosystem ministry, they do not have the authorization from the well being ministry’s FSSAI”, reported Kavitha Kuruganti, co-convenor of the Coalition for a GM-Free of charge India, in her grievance to the FSSAI.
